PDC Spas Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ
How much will owning a hot tub change my daily life?
Owning a hot tub will change your life in many ways – some you may not have thought about. Relaxing in the warm swirling water will massage and sooth tightness in your muscles and joins and boost circulation to help your body’s natural healing process. Tension and stress melt away, and you’ll enjoy a more restful night’s sleep. Let the worries of the day melt away and enjoy quiet time with family and friends. And the best part: this little vacation is only steps from your own back door.
All PDC Spas have been designed for the satisfaction of the customer in the long term, not just for showroom appeal. Manufacturing for over 54 years, PDC Spas positions jets in just the right places to massage the body parts that need it the most. Most models have a wide variation of jets that offer pinpoint action, swirling, rotational and high powered blasters. A large number of jets does not mean a better massage. Consider the type of jets, the position and the jet pump power. Thousands of PDC Spas have been enjoyed by our customers for over two decades and are still going strong. Your satisfaction is most important to us, which is why we design and develop our spa line with you in mind.
Can I use my hot tub all year?
You CAN use any hot tub year round, but only some tubs are DESIGNED to be used year round. Many customers have chosen to purchase a spa as opposed to a swimming pool due to the limited season a pool can be used, whereas a quality hot tub can be used year round. The quality of the spa shell and insulation used are very important to making your spa practical and enjoyable in all seasons.
PDC SPas are manufactured with raw materials assuring a spa shell with integrity and dependability to assure your comfort in even the harshest of temperatures. Most owners claim they use their hot tubs more in the fall and winter months when the temperatures are cooler, although simply turn back the temperature and your hot tube becomes an oasis even in the hot days of summer.
How do I choose the right model?
Seating is very subjective from spa to spa, and there’s more to it than just matching the number of seats to the number of people. The seating configuration and especially the footwell size and shape are very important in determining the number of people the spa can hold and the massage options in each seat.
PDC Spas offer a large variety of models that have 3 to 8 seats or “massage stations” with lounges, contoured seats and open seating configurations that have been designed to ensure maximum comfort for every body shape and size. Move from seat to seat, like circuit training, to have a variety of jet sizes and configurations that are fully adjustable to target all of your body’s muscle groups. Consider the angle and length of lounges for comfort and “no float” relaxation, as our Biscayne and Reno models. PDC Spas also offers some of the largest footwells available. Remember, people have feet as well as seats, and they have to fit somewhere.
How much will a hot tub increase my electric bill?
Your energy costs will depend on many things; the energy efficiency of the spa, how much the spa is used, where it’s installed, the electricity cost, outdoor temperatures and many other factors.
Most PDC Spas owners expect to pay an average of about a dollar a day in electricity cost. With our TemperLock insulation system, PDC Spas hot tubs have been designed and built to be energy efficient in the most extreme conditions. In government mandated energy efficiency testing, PDC SPas performs far better than required standards and most other manufacturers. We’re one of the only spa manufacturers to proudly publish our energy testing results.
How difficult is the installation?
The difficulty of a typical installation is close to zero. The spa needs a level, solid base capable of supporting the spa, water, and people (plan for 100 pounds per square foot) and a 220V electric circuit protected by a ground-fault breaker. Hot tubs can be installed on decks, patios, concrete pads, etc. and in any season.
All PDC Spas are self contained units that do not require plumbing. Simply fill with a hose and within hours the water will be warm and ready for enjoyment. While 95% of spas are installed outdoors, indoor installations are possible with some minor additional planning. PDC Spas’ exclusive AdvantagePack eternal equipment can provide additional flexibility for installations where access to all sides of the spa will be limited. Your PDC retailer can discuss the best areas in your home where you can maximize your spa use.
How much maintenance is involved?
Many shoppers are under the impression that a hot tub is similar to a swimming pool in maintenance. This is very far from the truth. A hot tub should be emptied and refilled about 2-3 times a year depending upon use. Only a hose is needed for this simple routine. With an ozone purification system, assuring pure, clean water is virtually maintenance free. Enjoying your hot tub should be as simple as opening the cover… and relaxing!
Most PDC owners spend 5-10 minutes per week maintaining their spa. PDC’s PowerFlo filtration and EverPure ozone system help you maintain crystal clear water with a minimum of effort. PowerFlo single-cartridge pressurized filtration filters more water, faster and more efficiently than other methods for a cleaner spa with lower operating costs. The EverLite ozone indicator light assures the ozone is sanitizing your water properly. Beware of less efficient skimmer type filters that can require 2, 3, or more cartridges – all of those cartridges detract from the useable space in the spa, and can be very costly to replace.
How important is lighting on a hot tub?
Lighting for enjoyment and safety purposes on a hot tub is an important feature. One thing to be aware of is that lighting can also be overdone. For instance, lighted jets may appear attractive in the showroom, but are an unnecessary cost, as a standard underwater light provides optimum light for enjoyable hot water relaxation.
Every spa built by PDC includes a standard LED light in the foot are that will light up the entire seating region of the spa for safety. Additionally PDC Spas offers many different lighting options that can help set the mood for your soak. Illusion and Allure Lighting illuminate controls and water features, and Fusion exterior cabinet lighting creates a soft glow at the base of the spa – all contributing to the perfect balance of ambiance and safety. All PDC Spas’ lighting includes zero-maintenance LED systems for years of enjoyment.
What do I need to know about the manufacturer?
You need to know as much about your hot tub manufacturer as possible. How long they have been in business, complaints and lawsuits against them and the amount of integrity they have as a company are of paramount importance. Your warranty is only as good as the company that is backing it. Many unfortunate hot tub owners have seen their warranty disappear when the manufacturer went out of business. PDC Spas is the oldest privately held manufacturer making spas today. We have ben in business, family owned, since 1957. No other hot tub manufacturer today is close to our track record in the market. Our warranties are unsurpassed in the spa industry and the energy efficiency is second to none. We pride ourselves on our honesty, integrity and being dependable and reliable to our customers.
